No One is Quite Like You
One of the greatest wishes I have as a mother is for my kiddos to see what makes them unique and special. I want them to recognize their own unique talents, and have confidence in their abilities. I ache for them to know that it is okay if they aren’t the number one scorer on a team, or if they can’t do a back handspring. I also want them to know it is wonderful to appreciate and cheer on others in their talents. We live in a world that fosters comparisons and competition. My hope for my own children is to step aside from that mindset. I want them to learn that it is wonderful for other people to have talents that they don’t have and that it is also fantastic for them to be good at things that others are not. Our differences and individual strengths all joined together are what make this world a beautiful place to be. It is from these wishes that No One is Quite Like You was born.
Often times when people, and especially children, think of talents, a physical display such as singing, sports, art, playing an instrument, etc, is what comes to mind. While these are amazing talents that should be appreciated, I believe there are many other beautiful talents outside of that paradigm. As this book was built in my mind, I knew I also wanted to highlight some talents that get overlooked such as being a good friend, kindness, the ability to make others laugh, and academic achievements. When we expand our understanding of what a talent is it allows us to recognize and embrace more of the things we are good at. It can build our self-confidence and self-love and instill a feeling of individual value and worth.
I hope that this book brings a smile to everyone who reads it. I hope it causes the readers to look inside themselves and discover more of the amazing abilities that they have.
