Faith Is
The realization that there was a need for a book like Faith Is came to me one Saturday while I was attending a youth baptism. It hit me that in preparing our children for this covenant, we focus on baptism and the Holy Ghost, and sometimes just glossed over faith and repentance. But they are the first two principles of the gospel, shouldn’t they come first? There are beautiful books centered around baptism and the Holy Ghost available, but where were the books about faith and repentance? As I contemplated what I wanted to emphasize in a children’s book about faith, I started by studying the Bible dictionary’s definition. The following line really struck me:
…Faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel and is more than belief, since true faith always moves its possessor to some kind of physical and mental action;
Immediately I knew what I wanted to focus this book on, the physical and mental actions of faith. Throughout Faith Is you will find “ing” words, denoting active actions that both build and demonstrate one’s faith, along with possible results that can come as we choose to act in faith.
